“Why do today what you can also put off tomorrow?

– was a motto that I coined on several occasions in my youth. Clearly its aim was to amuse. Still, why exactly do we find this humorous? Why not put something off for tomorrow?

Because our actions have consequences, and the only actions we can change is the ones we are performing right now. Therefore, we can not alter what we did yesterday, or what we will do tomorrow, any more than we can alter the actions of another person. Furthermore, just like another person can be dependent on the tasks we complete at any moment (for example a colleague who needs your input to finish a report), so too is the you of tomorrow dependent on the actions that the you of today performs.

In short, I believe it is of very high value to work hard everyday to become the best possible colleague; for others, and also for ourselves.

I have personally found that asking one specific question is best to really find out what the you of tomorrow needs most of the you of today. Simple you ask yourself:

‘Tomorrow, what will I most wished to have already done yesterday?’
