“A day to be filled is like a canvas to be drawn on.”

‘A day to be filled is like a canvas to be drawn on.’

The quote above seems to aim at inspiring people to pick up their brush and start drawing! However, I believe quite the opposite can be learned from the analogy. No painter blindly picks up a brush and frantically starts drawing on a random canvas: if the brush is not clean, if the colors are not pure, or if the canvas is dirty, the painting is impaired to begin with, and the best results out of reach from the start.

Like a painter carefully sets up his equipment and materials, so should we set up our day. Upon waking up, do not immediately crawl behind your computer. Instead, wake up conscientiously, eat a healthy breakfast, and meditate. Only by doing this will you (or I) attain the ‘clean’, ‘blank slate’ state of mind to excel in all creativity and performance related endeavours.
